Confirmed: Mahama Sacks Dampare, Appoints COP Yohuno as the New IGP
The shift comes as part of broader efforts to restructure the Ghana Police Service under President Mahama’s administration

In a significant move under his administration’s ongoing security sector reforms, President John Dramani Mahama has removed Dr. George Akuffo Dampare from his position as Inspector General of Police (IGP).
COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno has been appointed as the new IGP, with his swearing-in ceremony set for Friday, March 14.
Though no official reason has been provided for Dr. Dampare’s dismissal, sources indicate it is part of a larger restructuring effort within the Ghana Police Service.
Appointed IGP in 2021, Dr. Dampare was recognized for driving key reforms, such as community engagement and internal discipline initiatives.
