Mahama: I Would Be Ashamed to Seek Votes Amid Current Hardship If I Were Vice President

- Mahama condemns Bawumia for shifting blame to President Akufo-Addo while taking credit for successes
- He asserts that leadership requires accountability during economic crises
- Mahama warns that re-electing the NPP could lead to the party prioritizing personal wealth over national interests
Former President John Mahama has sharply criticized the current administration’s handling of Ghana’s economic crisis, underscoring the severe challenges faced by the public.
During his three-day tour in the Wassa East District of the Western Region, Mahama took aim at Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s governance approach.
He accused Bawumia of taking credit for the government’s successes while blaming President Nana Akufo-Addo for its failures.
Mahama stated that, in such a dire situation, he would feel too embarrassed to seek votes if he were Vice President, stressing that true leadership involves taking responsibility for both successes and failures, particularly in times of economic hardship.
Mahama pointed out that every time Ghanaians raise concerns about the worsening conditions, Bawumia tries to shift blame to the President while claiming credit for any positives. “This means even he knows things are not good,” Mahama commented.
He also warned that re-electing the New Patriotic Party (NPP) could lead to disastrous consequences, claiming that the party’s increasing focus on personal wealth might eventually lead them to “sell the country” if given another term.
