The Wenchi West District of the Seventh Day Adventist Church (SDA) in the Bono Region honored 20 girls, aged 13 to 16, for maintaining their virginity during a special thanksgiving service on the first Sabbath Day of the year.

Each girl received an undisclosed monetary gift for their personal upkeep. Mrs. Nana Amponsah Poku, the District Coordinator for the Young Adventist Women Ministries, praised the girls for their commitment to preserving their virginity and encouraged them to remain steadfast until marriage.

“God has created you wonderfully, and you must protect your virginity from being broken until marriage,” Mrs. Poku advised, also urging the girls to be selective about their friendships in the coming year. She emphasized the ministry’s role in shaping young women into responsible and valuable members of society.

She also highlighted the importance of revisiting traditional customs, such as puberty rites, to help protect girls from promiscuity and early pregnancies. “The ancient Bragoro or Dipo rites were crucial in preserving virginity and ensuring the well-being of young girls and women,” she explained.

Pastor Andrews Dua Bour Kyere, Associate Pastor of the Wenchi West District, also commended the girls and encouraged others to focus on staying pure and excelling in their education. The honored girls expressed their gratitude, thanking the church for its unwavering support in their spiritual and personal growth.
