Sam George Uncovers Alleged Revenue Leak at NITA

Minister Accuses Previous Administration of Diverting Funds to Private Firm

The Minister for Communication, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has accused the previous Akufo-Addo administration of signing a controversial third-party contract that allegedly diverts revenue from the National Information Technology Agency (NITA).

According to him, despite services being operated on NITA’s infrastructure, the generated revenue is funneled to a third-party firm, leaving a mere 25 Ghana Cedis in NITA’s bank account.

Speaking to journalists on Monday, March 24, Sam George described the situation as a classic case of “state capture.”

“NITA, for example, has just 25 Ghana Cedis, 8 pesewas in its Bank of Ghana account, yet the agency owes over GHC813 million. This is the state of the ministry we inherited,” he lamented.

He disclosed that NITA has an agreement with a third-party vendor, whom he has summoned for questioning.

“I do not understand how all the revenue meant for NITA is being redirected. The previous administration signed a contract that channels all funds to a third party,” he alleged.

He further revealed that a nearly four-million-Ghana-Cedi payment to the private firm was awaiting his approval, but he had refused to authorize it, referring the matter to the Attorney General.

Vowing to expose the full extent of the alleged financial mismanagement, Sam George pledged to present a detailed report to Parliament on the issue.
