AirtelTigo Deal Sparks Outrage: Sam George Slams Managers as ‘Enemies of the State’
Minister questions the patriotism of those behind the $1 sale, raising concerns over a staggering GHC3.5 billion debt.

The Minister for Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovations, Samuel Nartey George, has strongly criticized the handling of the AirtelTigo sale, labeling those responsible as “enemies of the state.”
Expressing his discontent, he condemned the decision to offload the telecom company—saddled with a GHC3.5 billion debt—for a mere one dollar.
Addressing journalists in Parliament on Monday, March 24, he questioned the patriotism of those who oversaw the deal.
“Those who managed the AirtelTigo process are enemies of our state and individuals who have no sense of patriotism. How do you claim to have bought AirtelTigo for 1 dollar, yet we now have ATC (American Tower Company), one of its creditors, demanding 1.5 billion Ghana Cedis?” he stated.
He further revealed that discussions with the American Embassy highlighted serious concerns about AirtelTigo’s financial burdens.
“The American Embassy and their team were in my office, and one of the major issues raised was the company’s massive debt. AirtelTigo’s liabilities exceed 3.5 billion Ghana Cedis.
“So if someone claimed they bought it for 1 dollar, who will bear the cost of the accumulating 1.3 billion Ghana Cedis in outstanding debts?” he questioned.
