Minority Blames Adum Inferno on ‘Dumsor,’ Demands Urgent Action to Avert Future Disasters
Inferno ravages Kumasi’s commercial hub, leaving businesses in ruins as opposition calls for swift government intervention and power crisis resolution.

The Minority in Parliament has linked the recent devastating fire outbreak at Adum, a commercial hub in Kumasi, to Ghana’s persistent power outages, popularly known as dumsor.
The inferno, which gutted multiple shops and properties, left nine people injured and raised serious concerns about fire safety and emergency preparedness.
Addressing Parliament on March 24, Subin MP Kofi Obiri Yeboah stated that eyewitness accounts suggest the fire was sparked when electricity was restored after an outage. He urged the government to swiftly resolve the ongoing power crisis and called for international support to assist affected traders.
He also criticized the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) for its limited capacity in handling the blaze, citing inadequate fire hydrants, logistical challenges, and poor firefighting infrastructure as key setbacks.
However, Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor cautioned against premature conclusions, emphasizing the need for a thorough investigation to determine the exact cause of the fire.
While authorities continue their probe, traders and business owners are counting their losses and calling for immediate government intervention to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
