Safety and Happenings at Ghana Parliament: Richard Kumadoe Writes
Addressing the need for proper vetting and security in Parliament
- The process in Parliament is an interview, not vetting
- The BNI, with its expertise, should handle vetting and background checks
- Proper management is essential to prevent chaos and ensure safety for nominees and visitors
What is happening in Parliament is not called vetting; it is, in fact, an interview process for the nominees.
The platform at Parliament does not have the capacity to conduct vetting within the time limits. The best practice is for the BNI to vet the various nominees and present committee members with individual or combined reports on their findings.
Reviewing the findings and outcomes will then allow parliamentary committee members to interview or ask nominees general or specific questions on relevant subjects or areas of particular interest.
The BNI, with its professional vetting and corporate due diligence teams, is best placed to carry out effective background checks for such national exercises.
The entire process needs to be managed properly to avoid chaos, which could lead to security breaches and safety concerns for the nominees and their visitors.
We will overcome this challenge soon. There are many issues in Ghana, but we will get through them.
Thank you.
