  • Ministry of Health to appoint interim management soon

President John Dramani Mahama has relieved the Chief Executive Officer of the Tamale Teaching Hospital (TTH), Dr. Adam Atiku, of his duties with immediate effect.

The dismissal follows reports of alleged medical negligence that tragically resulted in the death of a patient at the hospital’s Accident and Emergency Ward.

Sources indicate that the patient died due to a lack of prompt medical intervention, sparking public outrage and raising serious concerns about the quality of healthcare services at the referral facility. Investigations revealed that several critical pieces of medical equipment in the ward were either faulty or completely non-functional at the time of the incident.

The President’s decision is seen as a swift response to mounting complaints from residents and healthcare advocates about deteriorating conditions at the hospital.

Stakeholders have consistently called for urgent reforms and investment to address the systemic challenges facing the Northern Region’s premier health facility.

The Ministry of Health is expected to announce an interim management arrangement in the coming days as efforts continue to restore public confidence in the hospital’s operations.
