Pooley’s Death: Government Vows to Punish All Involved Without Fear or Favor

Sports Minister Kofi Adams has assured Asante Kotoko that justice will be served for Francis Frimpong Pooley, the loyal supporter tragically killed during Kotoko’s Week 19 clash against Nsoatreman FC in Ghana’s Premier League.

Pooley was fatally stabbed in Nsoatre, sparking nationwide outrage. Seven individuals, including Nsoatreman FC’s bankroller, Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, have been arrested. Baffour-Awuah, a former Employment and Labour Relations Minister, is under a movement restriction order issued by Sunyani’s District Court “B.”

Speaking to Kotoko officials on Friday, the Sports Minister declared, “We will not just condemn this tragic incident and move on. I am in constant communication with the IGP, and the Ministry is closely monitoring developments. Regardless of anyone’s status, those found culpable will be punished to deter future occurrences.”

In the aftermath, the Ghana FA suspended league activities and convened with the 18 Premier League clubs to implement stronger measures against violence.

Additionally, six players from Nsoatreman FC have been charged by the GFA for misconduct and unsporting behavior.

This tragedy underscores the urgent need for accountability and reform in Ghanaian football.
