Alan Kyerematen, leader of the Afrafranto Alliance for Revolutionary Change (ARC), led his team to pay a courtesy call on President-Elect John Dramani Mahama on Friday, December 20, 2024, at Mahama’s private office.

The meeting followed Kyerematen’s earlier congratulatory statement and provided an opportunity for the ARC leadership to personally commend Mahama on his victory. The visit also served as a platform to foster collaboration for Ghana’s development.

During the discussion, Kyerematen emphasized two key governance priorities for the Afrafranto Alliance:

  1. A Government of National Unity: He advocated for inclusive governance to curb excessive partisanship, reduce the abandonment of projects by successive governments, and prevent the exclusion of talent based on political affiliation.
  2. Sustainable Development Over IMF Interventions: He proposed the Great Transformation Plan (GTP) as a framework to stabilize the economy, with a focus on industrialization, agriculture, tourism, and robust anti-corruption measures.

Kyerematen urged Mahama to prioritize macroeconomic stability and address illegal mining (galamsey), underscoring its devastating effects on the environment and the economy.

In response, Mahama lauded Kyerematen as a visionary leader with a pragmatic approach to governance. He expressed regret over Kyerematen’s departure from the NPP and emphasized the NDC’s shared commitment to transformative development as outlined in the GTP. Mahama also reaffirmed his dedication to combating galamsey, acknowledging existing challenges and the need for stricter implementation of policies.

As a gesture of goodwill, Kyerematen presented Mahama with a copy of the Great Transformation Plan, symbolizing his readiness to contribute innovative strategies for Ghana’s progress.

This unprecedented meeting highlighted a rare moment of political unity, signaling hope for inclusive leadership to tackle Ghana’s pressing challenges. Both leaders agreed on the need to transcend partisan divides and prioritize national interests.
