Eugene Boakye Antwi, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) MP for Subin Constituency, has taken aim at Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, cousin of President Nana Akufo-Addo, accusing him of wielding excessive influence in the government.

In an interview Hon. Boakye Antwi claimed that certain relatives of the President are misguiding the administration.

He emphasized, “I didn’t mention any ministers; I specifically called out Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko. Why not mention his name? Are you afraid of him? He’s dubbed the ‘Ghanaian Prime Minister’ without any election behind him. People recognize him as such, and he revels in it. Gabby formed the Dankwa Institute, but how many of its members are in government? The only notable party member appointed is my brother Nana Attobrah Quaicoe; the rest owe their positions to Gabby.”

Hon. Boakye Antwi further accused Otchere-Darko and Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta of being the architects of the government’s failures.

“Since the NPP came to power, two individuals—Ken Ofori-Atta, who has mismanaged the economy, and Gabby, who manipulates appointments from the shadows—are still influencing things. We’re not intimidated; we just hold back out of loyalty to the party.”

He questioned Otchere-Darko’s authority, highlighting that despite lacking an official role or electoral mandate, he seems to possess considerable power. “He behaves as if he has all the answers, posting opinions on social media, yet has never run for office. Who appointed him to speak for Ghana? Who is Gabby? Just yesterday, while we were headed to Parliament to make decisions, he was online instructing us on what to do,” Hon. Boakye Antwi expressed.

Gabby Otchere-Darko, a private legal practitioner, has frequently been labeled as a key influencer within his cousin’s administration, with many referring to him as Ghana’s “de facto Prime Minister.”
