NPP’s Annoh-Dompreh Retains Nsawam Adoagyiri Seat Following Recount
The recount follows tensions over election irregularities, with Annoh-Dompreh narrowly defeating his opponent
- Annoh-Dompreh won with 29,640 votes, edging out NDC’s Fummey by just 207 votes
- A High Court order on December 20 led to a recount, invalidating previous results due to irregularities
- The recount process follows election-related unrest and disputes in multiple constituencies, including Nsawam Adoagyiri
Frank Annoh-Dompreh has successfully retained his Nsawam Adoagyiri parliamentary seat after a recount of the election results.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate secured 29,640 votes, narrowly edging out Amenorpe Philbert Fummey of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), who garnered 29,433 votes.
The recount followed a High Court order on December 20, which directed the Electoral Commission (EC) to re-collate and announce results for Nsawam Adoagyiri and Ablekuma North constituencies, invalidating the earlier outcomes.
This order came in response to a judicial review filed by six NPP candidates who questioned the initial collation process, citing irregularities and requesting a thorough review of the results.
Tensions ran high during the collation process, with the Nsawam Adoagyiri centre being temporarily disrupted on election day, and similar disturbances affecting other constituencies.
The NDC has contested the recount, asserting that results from the polling stations should be final. The EC’s decision to nullify the initial results has fueled further uncertainty and debate over the elections in these contested areas.
With Annoh-Dompreh’s victory confirmed, all eyes now turn to resolving the ongoing election disputes in other constituencies.
