North Korea has fired an intermediate-range ballistic missile towards the sea, according to South Korea’s military. This marks Pyongyang’s first missile launch in two months.

The missile flew approximately 1,100 kilometers before landing in the sea. South Korea’s military strongly condemned this “clear act of provocation” and is closely monitoring the situation.

The launch comes as US Secretary of State Antony Blinken is visiting Seoul for talks with South Korean officials.

Earlier today, Blinken met with acting President Choi Sang-mok, emphasizing the strength of the US-South Korea alliance.

The launch also coincides with a period of political turmoil in South Korea following the impeachment of President Yoon Suk Yeol.

North Korea previously condemned Yoon’s attempted declaration of martial law as an “insane act.”

This latest missile launch further highlights the ongoing tensions on the Korean Peninsula.
