A young boy and a woman are in critical condition at the Eastern Regional Hospital after suffering severe burns in a gas explosion at their home in Oyoko, a suburb of the New Juaben North Municipality in the Eastern Region.

Another victim, identified as Asante Rose, a Purchasing and Supply student from Koforidua Technical University, tragically passed away shortly after being rushed to the hospital following the blast.

Sources report that a gas leak was detected in the kitchen, and Rose, attempting to locate the source of the leak, accidentally lit a match, triggering the explosion.

Rose’s younger brother and their neighbor were also caught in the blast and were taken to the Koforidua Central Hospital, where Rose was later confirmed dead.

The Ghana National Fire Service responded to the scene to manage the situation and assist the police with their investigation.

The management of Koforidua Technical University, who have yet to comment on the incident, have been informed of Rose Asante’s tragic passing by her family.
