NDC MPs Will Return to Parliament After December 7 Elections – Kofi Adams
Kofi Adams Dismisses Urgency for Immediate Recall of Parliament
- Kofi Adams insists there is no need for NDC MPs to return to Parliament before the December 7 elections
- Parliament has been suspended since November 7, 2024
- Adams calls the 8th Parliament one of the best in Ghana's history
Hon. Kofi Adams, Member of Parliament for Buem Constituency, has confidently stated that NDC Members of Parliament will return to Parliament after the December 7 general election.
Speaking on the Lawson TV/Radio Ghana Se Sen Morning show with Kwame Tanko on Wednesday, November 27, 2024, Kofi Adams dismissed the notion that NDC MPs need to attend Parliament before the elections to continue legislative work.
He argued that there is no urgent matter requiring their immediate presence.
Parliament has been suspended since the NPP MPs’ failure to attend a session on November 7, 2024, leading to an indefinite adjournment.
Speaker Alban Bagbin expressed his disappointment over the lack of quorum, which halted legislative proceedings.
In response to the crisis, Majority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin submitted a memo to Speaker Bagbin, urging him to recall Parliament to address urgent national issues, such as tax exemptions, the Ghana Financial Stability Fund, and Supreme Court nominations. Afenyo-Markin proposed emergency dates of November 28 and 29, 2024, for the recall.
However, Kofi Adams maintained that there is no immediate need for action, emphasizing that the Parliament could resume its work after the elections.
He further praised the 8th Parliament, describing it as one of the best in Ghana’s history and highlighting the experienced leadership of Speaker Bagbin.
“This Parliament has been one of the best ever. We are lucky to have experienced Bagbin as Speaker. We passed all the Ministers that Nana Addo appointed. The only issue we had with the NPP was during the passage of the e-levy,” Kofi Adams remarked.
