MTN’s Ashanti Konnect Music Feastival: Where Music Meets Momo Fraud Awareness

Tamakloe emphasized the importance of keeping Momo PINs confidential

The MTN-sponsored Ashanti Konnect Music Festival successfully combined entertainment with education, equipping participants with valuable tips on preventing Mobile Money (Momo) fraud.

Held at Rattray Park in Kumasi on April 19, 2025, the event featured electrifying performances by renowned artists such as Brother Sammy, Jack Alolome, Daughters of Glorious Jesus, Tagoe Sisters, Okyeame Kwame, and Strong Man.

A 45-minute theatrical performance by the Kumasi Cultural Center’s drama troupe highlighted the dangers of Momo fraud, while a video message from Godwin Kwami Tamakloe, Senior Manager of MTN’s Anti-Money Laundering, Fraud, Compliance, and Risk Unit, provided crucial advice on preventing Momo fraud.

Tamakloe emphasized the importance of keeping Momo PINs confidential, avoiding easily guessable PINs, and verifying caller authenticity.

According to Tamakloe, subscribers should ensure registered business names match recipient company names for online transactions, which can save them from falling prey to engineered scams.

This initiative is part of MTN’s efforts to mitigate Mobile Money Fraud activities on their network and educate customers on detecting fraud patterns and reporting such activities.

The festival was attended by notable dignitaries, including Ashanti Regional Minister Dr. Frank Amoakohene, departmental heads of the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council, Kwame Owusu Fordjour (Dr. UN), and members of the National Democratic Congress party.

The event’s ambiance became highly ecstatic when the Regional Minister mounted the stage and danced to Jack Alolome’s hit songs.

The war against Momo fraud requires collective efforts from telecommunications companies, financial institutions, government, law enforcement, media, community leaders, and customers.

MTN’s initiative is a step in the right direction, educating customers on identifying and preventing fraud.
