President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled a groundbreaking initiative to offer 1,000 scholarships to tertiary students from the ECOWAS region, enabling them to pursue higher education in Ghanaian universities.

The announcement was made during the official launch of the ECOWAS 50th Anniversary celebrations in Accra on April 4.

In his speech, Mahama highlighted the critical role of regional integration, dialogue, and peaceful coexistence in fostering unity across West Africa.

He emphasized that the scholarship programme seeks to bridge socio-cultural divides among the youth of the sub-region, promoting stronger ties and mutual understanding.

“This initiative is more than just a scholarship offer—it’s an act of solidarity,” Mahama stated.

“It is a step towards building a future where young people from all corners of West Africa see each other not as strangers, but as partners working towards a common goal of unity and progress.”
