Outgoing President Akufo-Addo has conveyed his heartfelt condolences to the victims of the catastrophic fire at Kantamanto Market.

Delivering his last State of the Nation Address (SONA) at Parliament on Friday, January 3, 2025, he described the incident as deeply saddening.

“I’m deeply saddened by the devastating fire at the Kantamanto Market. My thoughts and prayers are with those affected, and I extend heartfelt sympathy to the hardworking traders who have lost their goods and investments.”

He assured the traders that the government stands with them and will work with the relevant agencies to ascertain the cause of the fire and provide the needed support.

He called on all Ghanaians to come together in solidarity and support the affected traders during this difficult time.

“As a nation, let us unite in compassion and solidarity to help those who have been affected. We can extend a helping hand to our fellow Ghanaians in these challenging times,” he appealed.

The blaze left widespread destruction, affecting over 30,000 traders, with 7,000 shops burnt as traders scrambled to salvage their goods as the flames rapidly spread.

The Ghana National Fire Service deployed 13 fire tenders from across the Greater Accra Region to combat the blaze.
