Kufuor Should Lead for Ghana, Not Just NPP – Alan Hits Back Again Over Bawumia Support
Alan urges Kufuor to prioritize Ghana’s progress over party loyalty
- Alan Kyerematen criticized former President Kufuor’s endorsement of Dr. Bawumia
- He defended his remarks as a necessary response to protect his candidacy and political stance
- He argued that the endorsement undermines impartiality expected of a statesman
Alan Kyerematen, the Founder and Flagbearer of the Movement for Change, has openly defended his recent comments about former President John Agyekum Kufuor’s endorsement of Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer, ahead of the 2024 general elections.
In an interview on Ghana Se Sen Morning Show with Kwame Tanko on Lawson TV/Radio, Alan stated that his remarks were a necessary response to what he perceived as partiality unbecoming of a statesman.
“I said what I was supposed to say. Kufour’s statement wasn’t just about endorsing Bawumia; saying he’s the best candidate at the moment was essentially campaigning against me. I had to defend myself,” Alan asserted.
Former President Kufuor, speaking earlier in November, had encouraged Ghanaians to back Dr. Bawumia, describing him as the ideal leader for Ghana under current global and economic conditions.
This endorsement sparked a backlash from Alan and his supporters, who saw it as undermining his candidacy.
Alan emphasized that Kufuor’s role should transcend partisan loyalty, focusing instead on advancing Ghana’s interests as a whole.
He reiterated that his comments were not an attack but a defense of his political stance and principles.
