Asante Kotoko have officially confirmed their return to football following the burial of their late supporter, Nana Pooley, despite earlier threats of a boycott “until justice is served.”
Pooley tragically lost his life after being stabbed during Kotoko’s Week 19 Ghana Premier League clash against Nsoatreman in Nsoatre. His final funeral rites are scheduled for March 6.
The club initially vowed not to resume football until the perpetrators were brought to justice. However, they now express satisfaction with the progress of investigations. The main suspect, identified as Brimah, remains on the run.
“Asante Kotoko shall be ready and willing to return to the pitch after the burial and final funeral rites of the late Nana Pooley,” said Communications Director, Sarfo Duku.
He emphasized the importance of resuming football, citing contractual obligations to players and the upcoming CAF Inter-club competitions deadline.
“While we continue to seek justice for our brother, football activities can move on, and we are fully prepared,” he added.
Kotoko resumed training on February 19 as they gear up for their highly anticipated return to action.
