Justice for Ahmed Suale: GJA Sets Deadline for Murder Investigation Update

GJA Calls for Urgent Action on Ahmed Suale Murder Case, Deadline Set for March 2025

Story Highlights
  • Six years post-murder, no arrests have been made, raising serious concerns about the investigation's effectiveness
  • MP Kwame Asare-Obeng (A-Plus) has threatened to disclose the names of suspected killers
  • GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour expressed disappointment over the lack of arrests six years post-murder

The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) is calling for a definitive update on the investigation into the murder of investigative journalist Ahmed Suale.

GJA has insisted that authorities provide answers by the end of March 2025.

GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour expressed frustration during a press conference in Accra on January 22, stating, “If we do not receive a satisfactory response by the deadline, we will escalate the matter to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Community Court of Justice.”

It has been six years since Suale’s tragic murder, and the lack of arrests is both disappointing and alarming.

Dwumfour highlighted the inadequate police investigations, referencing a shocking admission from former Attorney-General Godfred Yeboah Dame in February 2024, who revealed that his office had not received any prosecutable evidence from the police regarding Suale’s case.

Recently, MP Kwame Asare-Obeng, known as A-Plus, claimed to have provided the Police Criminal Investigations Department (CID) with information about Suale’s suspected killers.

He warned that if the police fail to make their investigations public, he would be forced to disclose the name of the suspect he reported.

Dwumfour also mentioned that the GJA plans to bring the case of Latif Iddrisu, a former Multimedia journalist, to the ECOWAS Community Court if there is no significant progress from the police by the March 2025 deadline.
