Former South African President Jacob Zuma has emphasized that President John Dramani Mahama’s re-election marks a significant shift in how Africans view elections.
Mahama triumphed in the 2024 elections, defeating Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate.
Zuma, who attended Mahama’s inauguration on January 7, 2025, expressed his joy over Mahama’s success. “Knowing Mahama, his views, and his capabilities, I was truly happy he won,” Zuma said.
He added that Mahama’s victory signals a broader change in African election perspectives.
“It shows Africans are beginning to look at elections differently,” Zuma remarked. He explained his presence at the event, saying it was important to support Mahama and experience the joy of the Ghanaians firsthand.
Zuma also reflected on the overwhelming happiness of the crowd at Independence Square, noting that it was so packed that finding space to stand was a challenge—an indication of the excitement among the Ghanaian people.
