Ghanaian actor and politician, John Dumelo, has pledged to continue supporting the creative arts industry, despite his new roles as a Member of Parliament and Deputy Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture.
At the launch of Celestine Donkor’s 11th Celestial Praiz concert on February 6, 2025, Dumelo expressed his admiration for the gospel musician’s work and promised to offer his unwavering support.
Speaking at the event held at Tang Palace in Accra, Dumelo emphasized that while he is now involved in politics and agriculture, he will always remain connected to the creative arts.
“Even though I am now an MP and part of the Agric Ministry, I will never forget where I came from, which is the arts sector. I will always be an arts person and a creative individual. If we don’t develop our own, who else will?” Dumelo stated.
He further highlighted that despite some people undermining the creative industry, it plays a significant role in the country’s economy.
Dumelo’s recent announcement as the Deputy Minister-designate for Food and Agriculture followed widespread speculation about his potential appointment to the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts. Over the years, Dumelo has been heavily involved in agriculture and regularly encourages the youth to take up the sector seriously.
He currently represents the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency in Parliament.
