Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu has called for urgent collaboration to overcome systemic barriers hindering marginalized groups in Ghana from accessing quality education.
In a recent address, he reaffirmed the government’s commitment to enhancing education, particularly for girls, children, and individuals with disabilities.
Iddrisu emphasized the transformative role of education but pointed out the enduring challenges preventing equitable access for all. He highlighted historical inequalities and the need for collective action to address these issues and promote inclusivity in education.
Referring to the 1989 Convention on the Rights of the Child, Iddrisu reiterated Ghana’s dedication to ensuring education is accessible to everyone, with a focus on access, relevance, and quality. He also connected education to the global goals of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), emphasizing that education is crucial for achieving all 17 SDGs by 2030.
“Ghana is committed to this vision, but breaking these barriers demands strong partnerships between the government, private sector, international organizations, and local communities,” Iddrisu concluded.
