Political analyst Professor Ransford Gyampo has called on the Inspector General of Police, Dr. George Akuffo-Dampare, to take swift action and arrest the Members of Parliament involved in the violent outburst during the Appointments Committee meeting on January 30, 2025.

The altercation occurred during a ministerial vetting when some lawmakers, in protest against the Majority caucus’ decision to continue the process despite a request to reschedule it, vandalized microphones and tables.

Prof. Gyampo emphasized that it is unacceptable for MPs to destroy state property, and urged the police to act accordingly. He pointed out that Dr. Dampare has previously arrested MPs and government officials for violating traffic laws, so it is equally necessary to address the vandalism.

“We cannot allow public property, funded by taxpayers, to be destroyed without consequences,” Gyampo said. He also expressed support for the Majority caucus, praising their tolerance in the face of the Minority’s actions, but underscored that democracy is based on majority rule, not on minority tyranny.

“Tolerance should not be seen as an invitation for the minority to dictate the proceedings,” he added.
