GJA Calls for Immediate Arrest of NPP Vice Chairman Over Journalist Threats
GJA Demands Justice After NPP Vice Chairman’s Threatening Comments Toward Journalists, Calling for Swift Law Enforcement Action

- The Ghana Journalists Association demands the arrest of NPP Vice Chairman Alhaji Masawudu
- Masawudu’s recent comments and actions, including threatening Media General journalists, have sparked outrage
- GJA urges the police to take swift action and hold Masawudu accountable
The Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) is urging the immediate arrest of Alhaji Osman Masawudu, the Third National Vice Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), after he allegedly issued threats against journalists.
This call comes in response to remarks made by Masawudu during an interview on Ash FM in Kumasi, where he allegedly threatened physical harm to journalists from Media General attending NPP events.
Masawudu’s comments have sparked outrage among media professionals and press freedom advocates across Ghana. The incident follows a previous confrontation where Masawudu was seen on video aggressively pushing away a TV3 microphone during an NPP press briefing, which was widely condemned as unprofessional and hostile.
At a press conference on April 23, GJA President Albert Kwabena Dwumfour condemned Masawudu’s actions, calling them reckless and a serious threat to both human life and democratic values.
He demanded that Masawudu retract his comments and issue a public apology, stressing that failure to do so would result in accountability for any harm that befalls Media General journalists.
The GJA also called on civil society organizations, international bodies, and the diplomatic community to support their demand for a formal apology and retraction. The police have already been notified, and the GJA is calling for swift and decisive action from law enforcement.
“The police must act now and ensure that no harm comes to journalists,” said Dwumfour, urging the Inspector General of Police to take immediate steps toward arresting Masawudu.
