Cholera Crisis in Central Region: Over 3,000 Suspected Cases, 19 Lives Lost

Health Directorate strengthens surveillance and calls for increased infrastructure investment to curb the outbreak.

The Central Regional Health Directorate has reported a staggering 3,028 suspected cholera cases, with 260 confirmed and a death toll of 19.

Four healthcare workers were also infected during the latter part of 2024.

Speaking at the Annual Health Sector Performance Review in Cape Coast on Wednesday, March 19, Regional Director of Health Services, Agnes Achiamaa Anane, acknowledged the strain on healthcare resources but assured that the directorate is committed to strengthening surveillance systems to prevent future outbreaks.

She emphasized the need for sustained investment in health infrastructure to effectively combat such emergencies.
