  • Security forces are investigating the motive behind the attack while working to restore peace

Terror struck the quiet community of Poayamire in the Binduri District on Wednesday night, April 9, 2025, when unknown gunmen launched a deadly assault on the palace of a local sub-chief.

The brutal attack claimed one life and left two others injured, including the sub-chief himself.

Naba Atamburi, the sub-chief of the area, was among the victims who sustained gunshot wounds during the violent invasion, along with two members of his family.

They were quickly rushed to the Bolgatanga Regional Hospital for emergency care, but tragically, one of the injured passed away en route.

The motive behind the assault remains unknown, but locals fear it could be tied to the protracted Bawku conflict that continues to stir unrest in the Upper East Region.

The region has seen a spike in violence in recent weeks, especially after a controversial police shooting incident that claimed another life. Since hostilities resumed in October 2024, the Bawku conflict has reportedly claimed over 83 lives.

Authorities have yet to release an official statement on the latest attack. Meanwhile, security agencies have launched investigations and are working to de-escalate tensions in the volatile area.
