Oliver Barker-Vormawor, convenor of the anti-galamsey protest organized by the Democracy Hub, has been granted bail of ¢20,000 on Wednesday, October 16, after three previous attempts were denied.
His earlier bail requests were turned down by both the Accra High Court and the Circuit Court.
Barker-Vormawor was arrested during a demonstration against illegal mining, known locally as galamsey, which has caused significant environmental damage in Ghana.
The protest drew several activists who raised concerns about the destruction of natural resources.
According to police reports, Barker-Vormawor was apprehended for alleged unlawful activities during the protest, although specific details regarding his actions are still under investigation.
One notable incident involved him removing the keys from a police van parked at the protest site.
Despite these setbacks, the activist remains resolute in his fight against galamsey, continuing to advocate for environmental reforms and increased accountability in the battle against illegal mining.
