  • Akufo-Addo expresses hope that Bawumia will succeed him and secure a second term

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has voiced his hopes that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the New Patriotic Party’s presidential candidate, will break the trend of “one-term presidents” in Ghana.

This remark comes in response to former President John Dramani Mahama’s ongoing refusal to debate Bawumia, which Mahama claims would be “stooping low.”

Akufo-Addo criticized Mahama’s rationale as “groundless,” emphasizing that Mahama stands alone as a “one-term president” in Ghana’s recent political history.

He noted, “Mahama insists he won’t debate Bawumia because he’s not in his class, but I question what class Mahama believes he belongs to. In reality, he’s in a unique class of one, having been voted out for poor performance.”

The President further expressed his desire for Bawumia to secure a second term, stating, “When Bawumia assumes the presidency, I hope he’ll be re-elected to join the ranks of successful two-term leaders like myself, Rawlings, and Kufuor. We’re not looking for another one-term president.”
