John Kwadwo Gyapong, the Oti Region’s Minister-Designate, is determined to tackle the ongoing conflict in Nkwanta through open dialogue with key stakeholders.

The unrest, which reignited on January 16, has tragically resulted in three deaths and numerous injuries, leaving the community in turmoil.

Reports of gunfire and property destruction have heightened fears among residents, with many fleeing to nearby towns for safety.

The conflict appears to be rooted in tribal tensions among three local groups: the Challa and Adele versus the Achodes.

In light of the crisis, Gyapong has emphasized the necessity of dialogue as a fundamental approach to conflict resolution.

During his vetting by the Appointments Committee, he outlined his strategy to engage with local leaders and establish a conflict resolution committee.

Gyapong stated, “When I am given the nod, I will consult my regional coordinating council, the security coordinating council, and again consult chiefs and stakeholders in Nkwanta first, and we will see how we are going to solve this issue.”

He acknowledged that resolving conflicts is a gradual process, requiring ongoing dialogue and collaboration with all parties involved.
