The inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, will be a grand event, with 21 Heads of State confirmed to attend.
The Ministry of Information announced on Monday, January 6, that three Vice Presidents, four Ministers, and 24 envoys will also be present.
Press accreditation for journalists, including international reporters, is now available and must be picked up at the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) office on January 6. Accreditation is compulsory for journalists, photographers, and videographers attending.
The ceremony will be held at the iconic Black Star Square and will include a parliamentary session, leading to the relocation of Parliament’s sitting to the venue. Preparations are nearly complete, with 80% of the work done, according to Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, Clerk of Parliament. The Black Star Square setup will closely replicate Parliament, ensuring a seamless transition for the event.
Access to the parliamentary session will be restricted to invited guests. The ceremony will begin at 11:00 hours, following the arrival of the Speaker and the President-Elect.
To ensure smooth traffic flow, several roads in Accra will be temporarily closed, and alternate routes will be provided for affected commuters. Designated parking areas will be available for guests, and unauthorized parking will be prohibited.
