The Ghana Freedom Party (GFP) is embroiled in internal confusion as two factions send contradictory letters to the Electoral Commission (EC) over the party’s participation in the upcoming December 7 elections.

In one communication, the GFP’s General Secretary, George Afful, informed the EC that the party had nominated Philip Kwabena Agyemang aka Roman Fada as its presidential candidate, following the sudden death of the party’s founder and former flagbearer, Akua Donkor.

The letter confirmed that the new candidate, Philip Appiah Kubi, would be officially filed within the legal time frame.

However, in a separate letter, Richard Botchway, the GFP’s National Organiser, stated that the party had decided to withdraw from the race entirely after consultations with Donkor’s family. This letter informed the EC of their decision to forgo participation in the election, apologizing for any inconvenience caused.

This division within the party leaves the GFP’s political future uncertain as it grapples with internal discord and the upcoming elections.
