2024 WASSCE Results Out: 483 Candidates Lose Entire Results Over Malpractices
English, Integrated Science, and Social Studies record declines, WAEC reports
- Entire results of 483 candidates cancelled, 781 results withheld, and 319 schools under investigation for collusion
- Drop observed in English, Integrated Science, and Social Studies compared to last year
- WAEC cites mobile phone use, foreign materials, and coordinated cheating as leading causes of sanctions
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has released the provisional results for the 2024 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) for school candidates.
According to a statement issued on Monday, December 30, 2024, a total of 4,108 candidates had specific subject results cancelled, while the results of 781 candidates were withheld. Entire results of 483 candidates were cancelled for using mobile phones in the examination hall, while 209 had their results withheld for other alleged infractions.
The results are available online via the WAEC website, but further scrutiny reveals a dip in performance in English Language, Integrated Science, and Social Studies compared to last year. Core Mathematics maintained its performance levels.
Additionally, the results of candidates from 319 schools have been withheld over allegations of collusion, which WAEC is investigating. Depending on the findings, these results may be released or cancelled.
Reported malpractices include smuggling foreign materials into examination halls, collusion among candidates, and coordinated cheating involving supervisors and school authorities.
