12 Arrested Over Arson and Vandalism at EC Office in Damongo

The Ghana Police Service has apprehended 12 individuals linked to violent acts, including the torching of the Electoral Commission (EC) office in Damongo.

The incident occurred in the Damongo Municipal Constituency when an agitated group of youth, angered by delays in the announcement of election results, stormed the EC premises and set it ablaze. The fire caused extensive damage to the building and its contents.

ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of the Police Public Affairs Directorate, disclosed that preliminary investigations revealed the suspects were involved in other acts of destruction, including vandalizing collation centers, damaging properties of district chief executives, and looting food supplies from a school feeding program warehouse in Tamale.

The police have obtained video evidence of the incidents and are actively investigating to bring all perpetrators to justice. Law enforcement has intensified patrols in key areas to restore order, urging the public to remain calm during this period.
