President John Dramani Mahama has expressed strong confidence in Dr. Johnson Asiama’s leadership as the Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), dismissing concerns from the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) about his appointment.

Amid heated debate over Dr. Asiama’s past legal challenges, particularly his alleged involvement in the collapse of UniBank and UT Bank, the NPP has questioned his suitability for the role, citing the need for impeccable integrity in Ghana’s financial sector.

Despite these criticisms, President Mahama defended Dr. Asiama’s appointment during his swearing-in ceremony, emphasizing the importance of experienced and decisive leadership to navigate the country’s economic crisis.

“Ghana’s financial sector is in crisis, and the task ahead demands foresight and decisive leadership. With Dr. Asiama at the helm of the Bank of Ghana, I am confident we will rebuild trust, restore stability, and put our economy back on a path of sustained growth,” Mahama stated.
