  • The Electoral Commission’s attempts to finalize the process have faced repeated disruptions

Nana Akua Afriyie, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for Ablekuma North, has unequivocally rejected the idea of a rerun in the constituency’s parliamentary election.

Speaking in an interview on February 6, 2025, she dismissed calls for a rerun, emphasizing that all relevant documents, including the original and scanned pink sheets from the three disputed polling stations, are intact and valid.

The controversy stems from a High Court order on January 4, 2025, which directed the Electoral Commission (EC) to conclude the collation process for four outstanding parliamentary elections.

While results have been declared in three constituencies, Ablekuma North’s collation remains stalled.

Efforts to finalize the collation on January 8 were interrupted due to incomplete data from three polling stations. A follow-up attempt on January 17 was postponed after the Ghana Police Service cited security concerns. The EC later suspended the process, citing a lack of adequate police presence, which led to disruptions by party supporters.

Akua Afriyie firmly stated, “The three polling stations, we have the pink sheets. We have the original pink sheets and we have the scanned copies, so why the rerun? We are not going for any rerun. We are going to collate those three polling stations.”

Her remarks underscore her determination to resolve the issue without a rerun, despite the ongoing tensions.
