The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has arrested Alex Cobbinah, a young man caught impersonating a soldier in a viral video, where he falsely claimed that President-elect John Dramani Mahama intended to dismiss protocol-recruited soldiers.

Cobbinah, seen wearing a Ghana Navy vest and displaying military items, spread what GAF described as misleading and deceptive messages. Investigations uncovered his repeated social media posts donning military attire and posing as a serviceman.

The Military Police apprehended Cobbinah at his Madina Zongo Junction residence in Accra. He has since been handed over to the Ghana Police Service for further investigation and potential prosecution.

In a public notice, GAF cautioned against using intermediaries or agents demanding payment for enlistment into the Armed Forces, urging citizens to report such fraudulent activities. They also emphasized that unauthorized use of military uniforms or equipment violates the National Liberation Council Decree (NLCD) 177 of 1967 and warned against actions that could lead to prosecution.
