Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Ghana’s Minister for Communications and Digitalization, has sharply criticized the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) for its consistent rejection of digitalization initiatives under the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking in an interview Ursula Owusu-Ekuful argued that the NDC’s opposition stems from their lack of understanding of digitalization’s importance for the nation’s growth.
“The NDC doesn’t grasp the true meaning of digitalization, which is why they oppose it,” she said.
She pointed to the party’s resistance to key initiatives like the digital address system and the Ghana Card, both of which have become vital tools in fighting fraud and enhancing public services.
Owusu-Ekuful also criticized the NDC’s focus on outdated methods, particularly their proposal for a dedicated TV station for the creative arts sector.
“In a time when streaming platforms are revolutionizing the industry, their idea of a TV station shows just how disconnected they are,” she said.
In contrast, she highlighted the NPP’s efforts to create a global platform for Ghanaian creatives through a new streaming app.
“We’re building a platform that competes globally, providing real opportunities for our people,” she asserted.
The Minister concluded by expressing her frustration with the NDC’s approach, reaffirming the NPP’s commitment to advancing the country’s digital future. “We won’t hand over power to a party willing to undo our progress,” she declared.
