  • Special Prosecutor denies involvement
  • CCTV footage identifies a businessman linked to the raid

The Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, has strongly condemned the recent raid on the residence of former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta, labeling the operation as unlawful.

Speaking on the floor of Parliament on Wednesday, February 12, the Effutu MP questioned the legal grounds for the raid, which was allegedly carried out by individuals suspected to be security personnel.

“There was no legal framework to justify this action. The man’s home was raided unlawfully. Such conduct is unconstitutional, and it sends the wrong message to the electorate,” Afenyo-Markin asserted.

In contrast, Mahama Ayariga, the Majority Leader, urged caution in addressing such matters in Parliament. He suggested that legal avenues, such as the courts, are more appropriate for resolving issues involving constitutional rights and property violations.

“You go to court for the court to declare that your property and dignity have been violated. In court, both sides will be present to argue their case,” Ayariga advised.

The Majority Leader assured Parliament that he would provide a detailed account of the events surrounding the raid after gathering full facts.

Eyewitnesses and security footage reveal that the operation involved approximately 12 individuals, including five in military uniforms, one in police attire, and others in plain clothes. The motives behind the raid remain unclear, and it is yet to be confirmed if any items were taken.

Initial rumors suggested that the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) was responsible for the operation. However, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng denied these claims during a press conference on Wednesday.

“The OSP has not authorized or conducted any raid on Mr. Ofori-Atta’s residence. This could be an attempt to discredit our office and derail ongoing investigations into the former minister,” Agyebeng stated.

Shortly after the press conference, CCTV footage from Ofori-Atta’s residence surfaced, allegedly identifying the leader of the group involved in the raid.

The individual captured in the footage is reportedly a prominent businessman with ties to the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He was recently acquitted in a separate legal case, raising questions about his connection to the operation.

The footage contradicts suggestions that the raid was staged by Ofori-Atta to distract from investigations into him, instead intensifying speculation about the true motives behind the act.

Security agencies have yet to comment on the footage or whether the individuals involved will face interrogation. Meanwhile, the OSP has reaffirmed its commitment to conducting its investigations without external interference.
