Mustapha Foyo Gbande, the Deputy General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has weighed in on the results of the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election, drawing comparisons to Ghana’s upcoming polls.
Donald Trump secured the necessary 270 Electoral College votes to clinch a historic return to the White House, marking a surprising political comeback after his first term from 2017 to 2021.
In response, Gbande urged Ghanaian voters to take a page from America’s playbook and support John Mahama in the December 2024 elections.
He highlighted the irony that despite Trump’s legal challenges, Americans had realized their mistake and voted him back into office.
Speaking on Lawson TV/Radio’s Election Home program, Gbande expressed optimism that Ghanaians could do the same by choosing John Mahama, signaling a clear break from the current administration.
He criticized President Akufo-Addo’s tenure, which he said had left Ghanaians facing hardships, economic struggles, and an overall decline in living standards.
“Ghanaians had hope in President Akufo-Addo, but he has failed to deliver. Age has not spared him, but the real issue is bad governance, not bad habits,” Gbande told Kwame Tanko
He humorously contrasted the leadership styles of the two aging figures, noting that while Trump never seemed to “sleep in public,” Akufo-Addo’s public appearances have often been marked by him nodding off at key events.
Gbande said Ghana’s future is on the line, and it’s time for voters to look at their own lives and cast their ballots wisely.
