Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo believes manager Andoni Iraola has the qualities to become one of the top managers in football, following his impressive work at the club this season.
Iraola, the Spanish coach, is working towards a historic goal—leading the Cherries to European football for the first time in the club’s history. Bournemouth are currently 10th in the Premier League, just eight points behind the final European spot occupied by Newcastle United.
Semenyo, who has thrived under Iraola’s guidance this season, spoke highly of his manager in an interview with SuperSport.
“He has the potential to be a top manager,” said Semenyo. “He’s a great guy, and his player management is exceptional. He knows how to connect with the players both on and off the pitch, which is so important.”
He added, “He gets on well with the team, and that’s a big reason why we’re where we are in the table.”
Semenyo has been one of the standout performers under Iraola, with a career-best tally of 9 goals and 5 assists in 35 appearances across all competitions.
“He’s given me the freedom in attack,” Semenyo explained. “In training, I feel relaxed and confident, going past players and shooting from long range. He’s given me the freedom to express myself in games, but I also make sure to contribute defensively, with recovery runs and supporting the team when needed.”
Semenyo attributes his attacking freedom to the defensive work he puts in. “Because I’m doing my defensive duties, it allows me to have all the space I need when we win the ball back,” he added.
This season, Semenyo has scored 7 Premier League goals, placing him third behind Justin Kluivert (12) and Evanilson (9) on the team’s goal-scoring chart.
