- Villarreal's clash with Rayo Vallecano has also been postponed
- The RFEF received requests from La Liga
La Liga champions Real Madrid’s upcoming match against Valencia, set for Saturday, has been postponed in light of the devastating flash floods affecting Spain.
The Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) has called off all matches in the Valencia region, where torrential rains have resulted in at least 95 fatalities and many individuals reported missing.
In response to the disaster, Real Madrid and the Red Cross contributed $1 million (£845,000) on Thursday to assist those impacted by the flooding. The club stated, “This donation will provide crucial support to the many families currently facing a dire situation and in need of our assistance and solidarity.”
Alongside the Real Madrid-Valencia match, Villarreal’s clash with Rayo Vallecano has also been postponed, along with three Segunda Division fixtures: Castellon vs. RC Ferrol, CD Eldense vs. SD Huesca, and Malaga’s visit to Levante.
In Liga F, the women’s top league, several matches have been affected, including Valencia’s game against Deportivo La Coruna and Real Madrid’s matchup with Levante.
The RFEF received requests from La Liga, Liga F, and various clubs to suspend all professional games in the region due to the flooding. Several Copa del Rey fixtures, such as Valencia’s trip to Parla Escuela, have already been rescheduled.
To express solidarity with those affected, a minute’s silence will be observed during this weekend’s games, honoring the victims and their families in the wake of this tragic natural disaster.
