100 Years Later: A Reflection on King Prempeh I’s Return from Exile – Dr. Ivor Agyeman-Duah

One hundred years ago, Asantehene Agyemang Prempeh I returned home from a 28-year exile in the Seychelles.

To commemorate this historic milestone, the Manhyia Palace Museum hosted a symposium on November 22, 2024.

Dr. Ivor Agyeman-Duah, Director of the Manhyia Palace Museum, recounted the joyous homecoming of the King.

”On November 12, 1924, Prempeh I triumphantly returned to Kumasi, greeted by eager subjects who had camped overnight at the railway station in anticipation. Dressed in a suit, he stepped off the train to a joyous and emotional celebration from the people who had longed for his return. He marked the occasion with a Thanksgiving Service at St. Cyprians Church, honoring his Christian faith.”

Dr. Agyemang-Duah highlighted King Prempeh I’s commitment to Christianity, emphasizing how he encouraged the royal family to embrace the faith.

The symposium, held at the Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Jubilee Hall, brought together dignitaries from Ghana and Seychelles, including Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, the Asantehene, and President Wavel Ramkalawan of Seychelles, Former President John Agyekum Kufour etc.
