Dr. Mohamed Ibn Chambas, African Union High Representative for Silencing the Guns, has urged Ghanaians, particularly political parties, to uphold peace and credibility in the upcoming December elections.
Speaking at the signing of the 4th Presidential Election Peace Pact in Accra on Thursday, November 28, Dr. Chambas emphasized the need for a violence-free electoral process, warning against actions that could attract negative reports from international observers.
“Once again, the opportunity is here to demonstrate Ghana’s deserved leadership role on the continent through credible and non-violent elections,” he remarked.
He highlighted the presence of observer delegations from ECOWAS, the African Union, and the Commonwealth, stressing the global spotlight on Ghana. “Let them return with glowing reports of exemplary elections in Ghana,” he added.
Dr. Chambas also called on the media, judiciary, security agencies, and the Electoral Commission to act with impartiality, cautioning against complacency to maintain the nation’s reputation as a beacon of democracy in Africa.
