President Mahama Revokes All MMDCE Appointments, Appoints Coordinating Directors as Interim Chiefs

President John Dramani Mahama has announced the revocation of all appointments for Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), effective January 8, 2025.

In a statement from the Office of the President, Mahama explained that the move was in line with the Local Governance Act, 2016 (Act 936), as amended by the Local Governance (Amendment) Act, 2017 (Act 940).

The statement further instructed the Coordinating Directors in the respective Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) to take over the roles and responsibilities of the MMDCEs temporarily until new appointments are made.

“In the interim, the respective Coordinating Directors of the various MMDAs are directed to assume responsibility as acting Chief Executives until substantive appointments are duly made,” the statement noted.
