Premier League clubs have voted to implement changes to the rules governing commercial agreements, following a meeting in London on Friday that lasted under 30 minutes.
The vote resulted in 16 clubs in favor and four against, with Manchester City and Aston Villa among those opposing the changes after previously reaching out to other clubs for support.
This decision comes on the heels of an independent panel’s finding earlier this year, which determined that certain aspects of the Premier League’s regulations were unlawful, a ruling prompted by a lawsuit from Manchester City.
The Premier League has stated that the amendments pertain to the “integration of the assessment of shareholder loans.”
The objective of the Associated Party Transaction (APT) rules is to prevent clubs from gaining advantages through commercial deals or cost reductions that do not reflect fair market value due to relationships with associated parties.
