Asante Kotoko has confirmed the tragic death of a devoted fan, Nana Pooley, who was fatally stabbed during violent clashes at their Ghana Premier League match against Nsoatreman FC.

The tense encounter at Nana Konamansah Park in Nsuatre ended in a 1-0 defeat for Kotoko after a late goal by substitute Gabriel Bonnah. However, the match result was soon overshadowed by disturbing scenes of violence.

Kotoko claims hostility was evident from their arrival, with sections of the home crowd displaying aggression. The situation escalated as missiles were repeatedly thrown at the Kotoko bench, creating a hostile and unsafe atmosphere.

In the ensuing chaos, Kotoko’s head of media suffered a serious ear injury from a projectile. The violence reached its peak when supporters stormed the pitch, attacking Kotoko goalkeeper Mohammed Camara while continuing to hurl objects at him.

Amid the unrest, Nana Pooley was stabbed and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital, as stated by Kotoko.

The club has condemned the incident in the strongest terms and is calling for a thorough investigation. Kotoko is demanding swift action from league authorities to enhance security and prevent such tragic events in the future
