Political Parties Set to Sign Peace Accord Today
Key stakeholders meet to safeguard peace before, during, and after the polls
- Political parties and candidates pledge to uphold peace
- NDC’s participation remains doubtful due to unmet conditions
- Preparations are complete, and most parties are expected to attend the signing ceremony
The National Peace Council is set to host a significant peace pact signing ceremony today, Thursday, November 28, with all political parties and their presidential candidates contesting the December 7 elections.
The pact aims to promote peace before, during, and after the polls.
Chairman of the National Peace Council, Rev. Dr. Ernest Adu-Gyamfi, voiced optimism about full participation, noting that parties have been engaged and no adverse feedback has been received.
However, the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) remains a question mark.
The party’s Chairman, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has previously stated that the NDC might skip the ceremony unless its six conditions, including commitments from top state officials, are met.
The Council has made logistical preparations for the event, but it is still unclear if the NDC will be represented.
