Sekyedumase, Ashanti Region – A 42-year-old man, Solomon Mensah, has been arrested by Sekyedumase police after being accused of assaulting his uncle, 55-year-old Kwaku Gyasi, in a violent attack that left the victim severely injured.
On the morning of January 11, 2025, Kwame Atta and Atta Gyimah, residents of Sekyedumase, apprehended Mensah and brought him to the local police station, accompanied by a blood-soaked cutlass.
The men claimed that Mensah had brutally attacked Gyasi, who they believed had stolen from him.
Following the arrest, a team of Sekyedumase police officers, along with the complainants and the suspect, rushed to the Sekyedumase New Cemetery, where they found Gyasi lying unconscious, his body covered in blood and with multiple cutlass wounds.
He was immediately transported to Sekyedumase Hospital for urgent medical care, and a police medical form was issued for further treatment and endorsement.
Investigation led officers to the Taakoso area, where Mensah alleged that the victim had stolen a quantity of maize from him.
However, Mensah was unable to pinpoint the exact location of the assault. Despite his claim, police discovered a blood-stained area, a market sack, and a black slipper belonging to the victim along a path near dried maize leaves.
Mensah remains in police custody as investigations continue. The police have retained the exhibits for further analysis, with support from the Sekyedumase police.
